Guru is Dead

guru-rapper-gangstarr-deadEh… I’m a little late on this one, but I wanted to post something about the death of Keith Elam, more commonly known as Guru of Gang Starr fame. Just because guru is dead, I am not going to jump on the bandwagon and start claiming he was the best rapper/artist ever, but he was definitely a really cool guy and made some real good music in the 90’s.

As a stupid white kid trying to be a thug in the 90’s, I grew up with the big names like Wu-tang, Snoop and Dre, Nas, EPMD, Biggy, and so on. In most people’s minds Guru never made it to that level of epic success, but in actuality he was a major contributor and a really, really good rapper. You may have heard of C.R.E.A.M, and not Code of the Streets, or New York State of Mind and not Mass Appeal, and if that is the case, you take a listen to some old Gang Starr.
